| A Note From Miata |
 |
|
Each New Year's Eve, my husband and I have a
ritual. We
spend some quiet time looking at the previous year.
We look
at what we accomplished and then, together, we
decide what
we intend to create moving forward.
A major realization for me has been how critical it is
to take
the time to celebrate all the things that went right
- all the
things (big and small) that we are proud of.
I think we all have to be careful of the tendency to
focus solely
on what we intend to do differently. It can so
quickly turn into
a "failure fest" - and we all know - nothing good can
come from
that!
I hope you'll do the exercise in this week's article and
start
off 2007 from a place and spirit of celebration.
We look forward to sharing a happy, healthy, and
abundant
New Year with you all.
Until next time - to your prosperity!
Miata

| What Are Your Victories? |
 |
|
As we begin the New Year, a lot of us, ourselves
included,
will be making resolutions, setting goals, and
generally
making plans for what we want to ACHIEVE
(I will guest star
on 5 night-time dramas), BE (I will be a
better Dad,
Daughter, Husband, Girlfriend), GAIN (I will
have money in a
savings account by the end of the year) and
LOSE (two dress
sizes, that credit card debt), and so on.
Now all that is well and good, and in fact is an
integral part
of your success in 2007. But what we wanted to
focus on in
this week’s newsletter is not what you will do this
year, but
what you did in the last one. And not all the goals
you
missed, or the failures you believe you had, but,
instead, the
accomplishments you achieved, the things you
enjoyed, and
the good times you had. Doing this will have two
highly
beneficial results: one, it will help clear away the
baggage of
the goals you missed or resolutions that you
slipped on.
Second, it will encourage a feeling of gratitude
for your life over the past year. We have written
before about the
importance of having “an attitude of gratitude”, and
concentrating on the successes of last year
will really
strengthen that as we go into 2007.
Mark Victor Hansen described an exercise in a recent
article of
his that I believe has incredible value, and it is an
exercise that
I would encourage all of you to do over the coming
week.
Take out a pen and a pad of paper. Write the
numbers 1-100
down the left side of the sheets. Then list everything
you
accomplished last year. And don’t censure yourself.
No-one is
expecting you to have found a cure for cancer
(unless we
have any micro-biologists in our community, but I
don’t think
so): all you need to care about is that you did
things that you
felt good about. Did you book a commercial? Did
you get
more call-backs than 2005? Did you have a lovely
vacation?
Did you take your dog for some great walks? Did you
see
some truly excellent movies? Nothing is too small for
this
list, and no victory is trivial. It may take you
a while to fill
all 100 slots, but take your time, and don’t stop until
you do.
Once you have achieved this, sit back and look it
over.
Remember the pleasure that each item on this list
caused
you. Recall the satisfaction you felt, and the fun
you had. Then carry that with you into the
New Year. Keep the list by
your bed, or at your desk for a little while, and
review it
periodically. By doing this, you will be more aware
of the
little things you achieve daily, and will be
grateful as these
things come your way. And that gratitude will put
you in line
for bigger things, for which you can be more excited
and grateful, and so it will go.
We outlined a number of goals this year, personal,
spiritual,
career and financial, but we also made it a goal just
to have
more fun. Because enthusiasm is the cheapest
cosmetic any of
us can have, and focusing for a time on our past
little victories
will bring that shining through into our present day
lives.
